E a próxima leitura será o livro "Animation by Preston Blair".
Fiz então um pequeno resumo delas em seguida.
Sumário
PRINCIPLES to draw better

heads
Lesson 3 – Copies – Proportion
Lesson 4 - 2 legged characters-full
body

Silhouettes
Lesson 5a - Hands

Animation School 7 - When Generic
is a Good Thing
PRINCIPLES
to draw better
·
ERRADO
-> start at the top of the drawing and work my way down, doing all the
details as I went
·
CERTO
-> drawing the forms first, and adding the details last - only after all the
major forms made sense
Lesson
1 -CONSTRUCTION - THE HEAD
1. form of your character
2. center lines through the form both
vertically and horizontally
a. wrap those lines around the form
b. not straight lines
c. right through the center, not to the
side
TIP: DRAW
SLOW AND CAREFULLY!
CENTER
LINES
·
perspective
guide/construction lines
·
help
you place the features on the forms in the right place
·
Place
the eyes on either side of the line in the middle of the face
Lesson
2 -Squash and Stretch on heads
HEAD
·
NOT
MOVE -> Top = cranium
o
Eyes
not change!
·
MOVE
-> Botton = jaw (mandíbula) + cheeks (bochechas) + mouth
o
jawbone
(queixo)
Even though
it's not real-it still has to feel
natural in order to have a convincing effect on the audience = it's not
arbirtary distortion
TIP: MAINTAIN
VOLUME WHEN STRETCHING AND SQUASHING
Lesson
3 – Copies – Proportion
You need to
train your eye to see mistakes
·
Make
more notes on where yours differs from Preston's.
·
Redraw
your copy, this time trying to fix the mistakes you found.
Lesson
4 - 2 legged characters-full body
PRINCIPLE:
Once you understand how to make the basic shape, you can then apply it to
variations in proportions for other characters.
DETAILS
WRAP AROUND BODY SHAPE. They FLOW. = cobrir as formas com os detalhes, de forma
fluente
·
Clothes
·
Fur
(pele)
·
Eyes
·
Fingers
Steps
1. Mark proportions
2. Draw line of action
3. Dureza in basic forms
4. Draw center lines
5. Draw basic forms of next level of details-eyes, arms, hands, feet, legs
6. Draw smallest details
a. Pupils sit on eyes AND FOLLOW THE
SHAPE AND POSITION OF THE EYES
b. hairs sit on head
c. Shirt wraps around body
d. …
TIP: Pear
shaped bodies = the simplest one
Lesson
5 - Line Of Action, Silhouettes
PRINCIPLE: Line
of action helps your poses "read". It makes them clear and
understandable and gives them a distinct non-ambiguous direction.
TIP: to
more clearly, add silhouette
(another principle)
TIP: to get
clear silhouette <-- b="">negative shapes-->
Lesson
5a - Hands
Two parts:
1.
First: palm
o
Base
exagerada!
2. Second: fingers
o
Começa
pelo dedão!
o
Depois
2 médios.
o
Enfim,
o mindinho.
o
Unevenly
(desiguais)! ß
qualidade
TIP: Don't
draw a hand by starting with the fingers.
Animation
School 8 - Proportions affect design-Contrasts
Basic construction
ß Hanna
Barbera / Walt Disney (no começo)…
Much better
ß Chuck
Jones, Bob Clampett and Tex Avery
·
Contrasts in sizes, shapes and directions of
forms
TIP:
CONTRASTS in proportions=exaggeration=cartoony=funny
PRINCIPLE: To
qualify as a design, there has to be
a set of specific variations on a basic set of forms.
Animation
School. Lesson 9: Model sheets/Steve's gift to young cartoonists who thirst for
knowledge
Copy them
all and learn the underlying concepts in these great drawings:
·
Construction
·
Line
Of Action
·
Fluid
Poses
·
Clear
silhouettes
·
Appeal
and cuteness
Animation
School 7 - When Generic is a Good Thing
For
beginning cartoonists and animators to study à GENERIC 40S CARTOONS
TIP: because
the shapes are not more specific, and they do not have angles and more complex
design elements.
TIP: Generic is good for study
PRINCIPLE: Strong
style will distract your attention away from the underlying principles that are
more important.
